DIY scrapbooking for beginners step by step: detailed master classes from scratch, instructions for making albums, postcards, flowers, panels, photo frames, wedding invitations and notebooks with photo ideas for creativity. Ideas for creating frames and photo frames for

Scrapbooking has long taken its place of honor as a form of applied art. Craftswomen fell in love with this technique not in vain, because with it you can create a huge number of masterpieces.

What is scrapbooking?

First, let's talk briefly about the technique itself. The literal translation is "book of clippings". The first mention of this type of creativity dates back to 1958 in England, then the technique spreads further, and in the 17th century scrapbooking acquired a modern form. If previously newspaper clippings were collected and pasted into a book or notebook, then later the masters began to draw up poems, quotes, engravings and other things in the form of collages from print clippings and memorabilia. But the real opportunities for the development of scrapbooking opened up in the era of the appearance of the first photographs.

In the modern world, using this technique, not only photo albums and frames are made, but also postcards on any subject, calendars, cookbooks, wedding wish books, notebooks, diaries, notebooks and document covers. In this article, we will look at ideas on how to make a photo frame.

Master class for beginners

To make a simple scrapbook photo frame, the following materials will be needed:

  • beer cardboard;
  • ruler;
  • glue;
  • textile:
  • satin ribbon;
  • clearings;
  • scrap paper;
  • stationery knife or scissors.

Make a piece of cardboard measuring 15x15 centimeters. Inside, cut out a window measuring 9x9 centimeters. To round the corners, you can use a coin by placing it on the corner and drawing a rounding. Thus, each corner will be smooth and the same. Cut out the next piece with a size of 15x3.5 centimeters.

Step back 2 centimeters from the top and make a few cuts so that part of the cardboard is bent. This will be a kind of leg for the frame.

Next, prepare the fabric by making it 1.5 centimeters larger on each side. Glue the cardboard to the fabric, and then to cut out the window, cut diagonally from each corner. Cut off excess material. Fix with glue on the back of the frame. Part number two is also pasted over with a cloth. Take 12 centimeters of satin ribbon and fix one end on the leg for the photo frame on the side where there is no fold. Cut a 12.5x3 cm rectangle from scrap paper and glue it on the back of the leg, just before the fold.

Next, cut a blank 14x14 centimeters from a less dense cardboard, round the corners, step back 2 centimeters on each side and cut a square. This will be the back of the frame. Before connecting it, you need to fix the other end of the satin ribbon in the middle of the photo frame on the bottom, and glue the back part on top.

Next, from the same scrap paper, cut out a square measuring 12x12 centimeters. Mark the side on which the photo will be inserted by making a small hole at the edge. Spread glue on three sides, avoiding the one on which you made the mark, and glue to the back of the frame. After that, fix the leg on top, with the part that bends. Mark the center and fix.

Turn the product over and decorate as you wish, using various cuttings, lace, feathers, beads, and so on. It all depends on the imagination.

Making a triple photo frame

Consider step-by-step instructions for making a triple soft photo frame with your own hands, this master class is suitable for more advanced craftsmen. You will need:

  • binding cardboard;
  • scrap paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • cuttings and other decor at your discretion;
  • sewing machine;
  • fabric of two types;
  • stationery knife.

First, on the cardboard, you need to outline the dimensions of the future frame. If you are making a 10x15 photo for a photo, then you will need three cuts 14x19 in size and 2 connecting jumpers with creasing 0.5 and 1.8 centimeters. Jumpers have a size of 2x19 and 3.5x19 centimeters. Connect the three parts to the jumpers with glue. Next, you need to cut the synthetic winterizer to size so that it is enough for the entire surface, in one layer.

After the synthetic winterizer is glued, you can proceed to sheathing with a cloth. Cut and sew together two pieces of fabric one and a half centimeters larger than the size of the photo frame itself in order to make folds. Next, on the resulting canvas on the reverse side, we put our triple frame and glue the excess fabric to the cardboard on each side, carefully bending the corners. We pay special attention to jumpers so that the frame can be easily bent. Next, glue an additional piece of fabric on each of the jumpers.

We pass places along the fold with a ruler or something similar to secure and avoid stretching the material. After that, we sew the cover on the sewing machine, stepping back three to four millimeters from the edge. The next step is to create the files themselves, where the photos will be inserted. To do this, from scrap paper, in harmony with the colors of the fabric, we cut out six rectangles of the same size. You can use paper of several colors, so it will be more interesting to look.

Lay out the sheets so that they are slightly smaller than the cover. In three rectangles, step back two centimeters on each side and cut holes with a clerical knife. Glue on three sides to the other three parts. Each part is glued on the front side. If you have double-sided paper, then choose the color scheme that suits and looks more beautiful.

Do not stick on top, it is there that photographs will be inserted later. Next, sew everything on a sewing machine, stepping back three millimeters and avoiding the top. If you want to fasten the frame so that it does not open, you can use an elastic band. Use a hole puncher to make holes at the top and bottom, in the middle of the cover, and secure with grommets.

Now the finished blanks must be glued to the cover. To do this, it is better to use Moment glue. Here is the photo frame almost ready. It remains only to decorate it. For decoration, use various cuttings, metal decor, ribbons, bows, flowers, and so on.

Depending on who you design the product for, the decor may be different. If this is a children's frame, then you can decorate it with pictures of different animals, cartoon characters. If the cut is flat and made of thin paper, then for sealing, glue the picture to thick cardboard and cut along the contour. This is especially true if the character protrudes beyond the edges of the front cover. Thus, it is possible to increase the total volume of the product by gluing parts of various densities and thicknesses.

The more voluminous the decoration, the more interesting the product looks. A well-chosen application of several details will always make the craft more diverse and unusual. If the product is prepared for a man, then there are many decorations for this case. For example, the design of an accessory using the origami technique. You can make a shirt with a tie or a tuxedo with a bow tie, a top hat, pince-nez, various mustaches, and sunglasses are popular.

You can combine this with thin plywood cars, toppers, printouts with the right phrases, and other details of a male theme. Women also have their own jewelry. Moreover, you can make a postcard on any subject and for any occasion:

  • wedding;
  • birthday;
  • anniversary;
  • birth of a child;
  • wedding anniversary;
  • St. Valentine's Day;
  • housewarming.

How to make a metal product?

Metal frames are often used for decoration. To make such a design, you will need:

  • sheet of thin copper or aluminum;
  • awl;
  • small hammer;
  • metal scissors;
  • marker.

First, draw a frame on paper, cut it out, then stencil it onto a sheet of metal. Cut out the workpiece with metal scissors. In order to cut it out, drill a hole in the middle with a thick drill, and remove the excess with scissors.

Now the hard work lies ahead. Mark with a marker the pattern you want to create. If simple lines are needed, then you can make them with an awl, simply by guiding along the contour with a certain pressure. This must be done carefully so as not to draw through. The bitmap is created by tapping with a hammer over the awl. Strikes should be light and accurate.

Depending on what specific convexity is needed, various tools can be used: screws, self-tapping screws, wood cutting knives, coin edges, scalpels. You can also use a punching machine that will take thin metal. It all depends on the size and shape of the future frame.

Carefully study what materials the machine is intended for so as not to spoil the material and the device. Also, if additional holes are needed, you can use regular and figured hole punches.

Another way to create a frame for metal - this is a blank made of polymer clay, dough, plasticine, gypsum. This may require a form.

But if the motor skills of the hands are good, then you can do without it. Blind the desired shape of the frame, walk on top with PVA glue or a primer. Further, you can use plates of gold leaf, silver, copper and others. Or stick foil.

A very original and good idea is to frame your photo in a frame made by yourself. There are many techniques in needlework, thanks to which you can make a decorated frame yourself. The most common are DIY photo frames using the scrapbooking technique (we recently taught you how to do it in the previous master class).

Such crafts can be made not only for yourself, but it will also be a good gift that a person will remember for a long time and will keep only the warmest memories of you. Such a little thing can be made both from improvised means, and you can purchase all the necessary materials in needlework stores.

So, your attention is a master class and a video tutorial on creating a frame for a photo measuring 10 * 15 cm.

This is such a diverse technique that you can do anything with it, even from the remnants of colored paper, postcards and cardboard.

  • A4 cardboard;
  • One sheet of scrap paper, no smaller than 20 by 20 cm;
  • Scotch foam;
  • Glue;
  • Stationery knife;
  • Ruler;
  • Pencil;
  • Ink;
  • Wand or non-writing pen;
  • Scissors
  • And, of course, the photo itself.

We see all the necessary materials in the photo below.

Step-by-step MK on creating a photo frame using the scrapbooking technique

We divide our sheet of cardboard according to the scheme, as indicated in the photo below.

We take a clerical knife and very carefully cut out the middle (the cut out part does not need to be thrown away, it will still be useful to us). Then glue the cardboard frame on the wrong side of the scrap paper. Then inside the frame we cut the paper crosswise and with a non-writing pen we make the invisible sides of the bend according to the picture.

We bend the paper and glue it, we get such a front side of our future masterpiece.

After that, we cut off the corners, leaving approximately 5-7 cm from the edge of the cardboard. Then we select the top and bottom of the frame, make small cuts in the upper side, a little more than the photograph itself. It is better to immediately tint the inside, as well as the place where the photo will be inserted. We stick foam tape around the perimeter of the frame, except for the top. We do everything according to the scheme.

So that the photo does not fall through, we paste three-dimensional squares, then we glue the second piece of cardboard like this in the picture:

If you like to make such products, keep improving! Add zest to personal documents - in your own style will not leave anyone indifferent!

Bigue again and put on the edge from all sides.

After that, carefully form the corners of the frame from all sides, as shown below.

Then glue and tint. We got it like this:

Now we glue pastel paper on the back wall of the frame, the size of which is slightly smaller than our frame, but not more than 3 mm. Let's take a look at the example below.

From the cardboard that remained from the middle of the frame, we make a stand in the form of a leg. We measure 1.5 cm on one side, cut it out and also glue it with pastel paper. About 2 cm from the top we draw an invisible line, make a bend line, tint. We will glue it to the frame at the very end, when we finish decorating the main part.

At the end, we proceed to the decor of our frame, glue the leg on the back and insert photos. Here is such a ready-made scrapbooking-style photo frame obtained in the photo:

It is a breathtaking art that captures memorable and important moments.

Scrapbooking has gained immense popularity among needlework lovers. This technique creates not only beautiful pages of albums and postcards, but also stylish elements of interior decor. Those who think through the interior of the room to the smallest detail, it is sometimes very difficult to find the perfect decor items.

Photo frames can add zest to the overall picture, but they must be in harmony with wall decoration, furniture and other interior components. In this case, it is easier and more interesting to make them yourself than to look in stores.

Scrapbooking photo frames can be separate decorative elements, or they can be part of a photo album or postcard. Homemade photo albums are decorated not only from the outside. Each photo needs an individual approach, individual design. The so-called labels are used as frames for scrapbooking.

Creating a scrapbooking frame

Making a frame using scrapbooking is easy. The main thing is to be patient and have the necessary materials. And you will also need a number of simple tools.

Tools and materials

To independently make a photo frame using the scrapbooking technique, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • scrap paper;
  • ruler;
  • scissors;
  • stationery or construction knife;
  • glue;
  • scotch;
  • photo.

When all the tools are prepared, you can draw up a rough plan for creating a photo frame and its sketch. To get inspiration and fresh ideas, you can find and study numerous master classes and video tutorials.

If, according to the idea of the master, the frame will be decorated with beads, rhinestones, etc., then you should take care of the decor elements in advance. Many needlewomen complement the frames with drawings. Special stencils for scrapbooking help to make them easily and efficiently.

Such a frame can turn into a real comic

The sequence of creating a photo frame with your own hands:

  1. On a cardboard sheet, the boundaries of the future frame are indicated.
  2. With a utility knife, carefully cut out the middle of the sheet, leaving only the frame.
  3. The resulting frame is glued to the back of the scrap paper.
  4. The paper inside the frame is cut crosswise. The edges of the cut paper are bent with a stick.
  5. The corners of the paper are removed.
  6. Selects which side of the frame will be the bottom and which side will be the top. An incision is made on the top side. Its length should be 5 mm longer than the photo. The photo will be inserted through this notch. Therefore, all edges of the frame are glued with adhesive tape, except for the top.
  7. A cardboard sheet is glued on the back side according to the size of the frame. The edges of the scrap paper are folded around the frame, the excess is removed.
  8. From the remaining middle of the cardboard sheet, a leg for the frame is formed.

The frame layout is ready. But it is unlikely that such a photo design can decorate the interior. Next up is decorating. It is worth considering in advance for which photo the frame is being created. The style of the photo frame should emphasize the theme of the photo.

Photo frame on a marine theme

For decoration, almost all the techniques and elements of scrapbooking decor are used. Stickers, paper flowers, metal pendants, inscriptions, ribbons - this is just a small part of the possible design options.

Learning to decorate a frame

A standard rectangular photo frame with a zone for photography and decoration around the perimeter is always relevant. But there are also extraordinary, modern ideas for creating photo frames.

Photo frame with a block for notes

How to turn a frame from just a stylish decoration into a functional element of decor? The original design of the photo and the attachment for paper stickers are combined in one photo frame with a block for notes.

This frame will find its place in the bedroom or living room. It will be possible to leave inscriptions on the leaves about the nearest plans and goals for the month. Or on the refrigerator - with a shopping list or with a recipe that you have long wanted to cook.

Photo frames with block

It will be necessary to add blocks for records to the materials and tools familiar to all. They can be made by hand. First, create a design in a graphics editor, select the required block size, reduce the image, insert lines for easy text writing and print. If you are not interested in creating such blocks, then you can buy ready-made ones in the stationery department.

Leaves for notes are ready, you can proceed to the photo frame itself. The functional content of the frame forces it to be divided into two parts: the space for the design of the photo itself and the note block on the side or bottom.

The leaves are evenly folded and glued with the upper part to one another with glue. You can also use double-sided tape. An adhesive base is also formed at the bottom of the block, and the entire structure is attached to the selected area.

The other half of the frame performs the main function. You can make it according to the algorithm for creating a photo frame described above, excluding the point of building a leg if the frame will hang on the wall.

Both parts can be decorated with scrapbooking decor. And you can, for example, highlight only a photograph with artistic decoration. Then, if the block loses its relevance over time, you can simply cut it off.

Soft fabric photo frames

The main material in scrapbooking is paper, but textiles are also often used. Photo frames do not have to be rigid - wooden or cardboard. Soft photo frames will become an original decoration for a children's room.

Fabric frames

To make such a frame, you need to prepare:

  • a sheet of cardboard;
  • sintepon filler;
  • textile.

From cardboard you need to cut a rectangular or square blank. From it, in turn, remove the middle - the part of the sheet corresponding to the size of the photo. From fabric and synthetic winterizer, it is better to take blanks 3-4 cm larger in length and width than from cardboard.

Next, you need to connect everything - glue the synthetic winterizer to the cardboard, cover everything with a cloth. So that the fabric does not move away later, it is better to apply glue on it from the wrong side in advance. Gently and evenly stretch it.

It is convenient to attach decorative elements to the resulting blank - brads, paper flowers. They are easy to insert into the fabric and will hold up well. Cardboard decorations - tags, inscriptions, chipboards are best put on glue.

Texture Photo Frames

To make vintage unique things for the interior, including photo frames, allows the use of texture. Independent selection of relief, color, technique and the author's approach together create author's decor items. How to turn an ordinary cardboard frame into a work of art?

Making texture paste

A white primer is applied to the frame with a spatula or brushes. To speed up the drying process of the soil, you can put it in the oven without closing the door, just for a few minutes.

You can give relief with the help of lace, or even a simple bandage, cardboard stencil, mask. The lace is also primed and sent for short-term baking. A texture paste is applied to the stencil. Then the mask is removed. Everything is dried, paints, stamps, beads are applied. Instead of the original featureless gray frame, an antique handmade piece is obtained.

Frames as decorative elements in scrapbooking

As mentioned at the beginning, frames can be not only independent objects. In scrapbooking, small frames are actively used as part of the design of a photo album or postcard.

They are usually sold in sets. They can be completely identical or differ in shape and size, but they must be combined with each other in color or style.

According to the material of manufacture, they are divided into types:

  • metal;

    There is also a division into solid and contour frames. In the first case, the photo is glued on top, and in the second, the photo is selected according to the size of the contour.

    Original photo frames

    Like individual photo frames, scrapbooking frames can be made independently by cutting them out according to the drawn contours, coloring and decorating with various decorative elements to your taste.

A scrapbooking photo frame is an original idea for decorating a family photo or an unforgettable gift. For such a gift, you can come up with thousands of options for small details, but the most important thing is to put deep meaning into miniature images and leave at least a small inscription with your own hand.

A cardboard photo frame from a mother for a son is one of the options for a warm and heartfelt gift. There are two birds created by hand in the bright picture for a reason. One bird is waiting on the ground - this is the mother. And the second bird - soars in the sky, as a symbol of a growing son. The soaring bird is turned to the second and descends to the ground, just as loving children constantly return to their father's house.

Tools and materials for the frame

  1. 1 sheet of thick cardboard
  2. 1 sheet of soft cardboard
  3. 7 buttons in different colors and sizes
  4. 3 paper napkins (orange, gingham and any floral design)
  5. Thick bright green cotton
  6. 20 cm openwork tape 1 cm thick
  7. Large sewing and small nail scissors

Step-by-step instruction

Draw a 12 x 17 cm rectangle on a sheet of soft cardboard. Draw a 1.5 cm thick frame inside.

Cut out a rectangular frame - it should completely cover the edges of the photo.

On a dense green fabric, draw pairs of rectangles of the following sizes:

  • 4 X 19 cm;
  • 4 X 14 cm.

Cut out 4 strips for the fabric frame.

Wrap the frame of soft cardboard with fabric blanks, bending them at the corners.

Iron each side before sewing. For convenience, you can fix this trim on the back with tape or pins.

Cut out another 12 x 17 cm rectangle from soft cardboard and a checkered napkin. Gently glue the checkered blank onto the cardboard with PVA glue. Often napkins delaminate - glue them with a brush with a minimum amount of glue so as not to spoil the texture and not tear.

Sew the frame with yellow acrylic thread with simple stitches along the outer and inner rim of the piece. At the back, the lining can simply be swept away with stitches. Sew the fabric frame to the base in a cage along the already sewn stitches (possible after 1-2). Leave one (top) side free to make a pocket into which the photo will be inserted.

From colored sheets, cut out pairs of triangles for the image of a kite. It should be about 4-5 cm in height.

Glue a light blue sheet onto a thick sheet of A4 size cardboard. Cut a strip 5 cm thick from an orange napkin and glue it along the left edge of the cardboard sheet, laying it horizontally. Glue a piece of openwork tape along the right edge of the orange background. At the bottom, glue a strip of flower napkin 5 cm thick. Glue the kite, stepping back about 7 cm to the right and 10 cm from the bottom on the blank. Glue the red acrylic thread onto the PVA as an extension of the kite.

From colored paper, cut out branches with 5 leaves 1.5-2 cm in size. In total, make about 50 parts, mostly green tones. It is more convenient in this case to work with nail scissors and cut out the detail on paper folded in 4 layers. If it’s difficult to make branches by eye, draw a template. Then trace it on paper and cut it out.

Cut out a rectangle from thick burlap. Sew the edges with regular decorative stitches with red acrylic thread. This will be the trunk of the tree.

Step back 2-3 cm from the bottom along the right edge of the cardboard blank and glue the fabric rectangle. Glue small paper branches above. Start with reds, blues, oranges and yellows, and glue greens on top. Glue the branches with the bottom edge to the blue background, leaving the leaves free.

Cut out the following pieces from corrugated board:

  • 5 thin strips with sharp tips 5 cm high;
  • 2 thin strips 6 cm long;
  • a small cloud 6 cm wide;
  • plate blank.

On the blank for the plate, write the name of the child.

Circle the cardboard cloud on white paper and cut out a blank of the same size. Also cut out 15-20 details - small clouds of arbitrary shape. On a large cloud, write any wish from your mother to your son and glue it to the same corrugated cardboard mold.

Glue the photo pocket to the large cardboard base on the left side of it. Keep indents. The free gap must be at the top.

Glue a three-dimensional cloud over the kite. It will stand out as a major detail throughout the work. Scrapbooking is characterized by such elements with commemorative inscriptions, which over time become even more valuable for the little gift owner. Glue small clouds randomly or in a checkerboard pattern in the upper part of the blue sky.

In the lower right corner, glue a fence made of cardboard parts: 5 "beams" vertically and 2 across.

Draw a detail in the form of bricks or a piece of a brick wall with a gel pen on a corrugated board. Color with red pencil and cut out the detail. Glue it to the bottom right corner of the fabric frame. Such a three-dimensional element will make the frame even more attractive.

Sew buttons with colored thread. It is not necessary to do this, but this way the buttons will look more spectacular on the product. Tie a bow out of twine, securing it with red thread.

Glue "Moment" or silicone glue 3 buttons and a bow in the left corner of the fabric frame. Glue the name plate to the match as if to a support. Stick it on the frame. The name must refer to the photo.

Glue 4 colored buttons to the top right corner of the frame.

Knead a simple dough for bird figurines from flour, salt and water.

From balls and small plates of dough, form the figures of two birds. The flying one should look to the right, and the second - in the opposite direction. Use fondant tools, and if you don't have one, use a knife or toothpick to shape the wings and tails.

Lay the miniature birds on waxed paper and bake in a low heat oven for 10 minutes. The figures should only slightly harden, later they will dry out anyway.

Glue the flying bird with "Moment" or silicone glue over the fabric frame, turning its head slightly down.

“Plant” the second bird on the detail in the form of bricks.

Give the finished product time to dry. The corners can be pressed with a press at night, since it will not work to press all the work - volumetric parts may be damaged. It is best to align the cardboard work with heavy books in the corners.

The finished photo frame made of cardboard using the scrapbooking technique just needs to be supplemented with your favorite photo - a family or a portrait of a baby.

Additional ideas

Find a place for unique work in your home. Especially successfully such a collage with scrapbooking elements will fit into the interior of a bright children's room. It can be framed in a thin frame or glued on an additional layer of thick cardboard and hung on the wall, put on a shelf or make a cardboard support for the table. A convenient pocket for a photo is specially made with a bright backing: if you make such a frame for a gift, you can give it without a photo, and change the inscription on the cloud to a birthday greeting, signature, from whom the gift is, or another wish. Do not forget to enlarge the plate for a long name.

You were invited to a birthday party and you are thinking about what to give as a gift, or you have your favorite photos, but there is no beautiful frame. Of course, you can buy a frame, but it's much more pleasant to make it. do it yourself in your favorite style. Today I will try to tell you in detail how to make a photo frame using scrapbooking materials in my favorite Shabby Chic style.

So let's get started 🙂

For this we need:

  • 1 sheet of double-sided paper. I used Tilda paper from Panduro hobby.
  • wooden Photo frame. In my version - a frame from Ikea.
  • tassel
  • white acrylic paint
  • jewelry (paper flowers and leaves, brads, pendants, pearls, etc.)
  • sandpaper
  • scissors
  • dummy knife
  • pencil

First you need to sand the entire wooden surface of the frame from the outside and inside. To do this, I will use a paper-based zero sandpaper.

Now the inside of the frame and all the outer sides need to be covered 2 times with white acrylic paint. In order not to stain the table, it is better to paint on a special self-healing mat or on white paper.

Cut out a rectangle for the outer part of the frame. I got it measuring 18.5 x 13.5 cm.

Glue the paper to the frame

From the inside, carefully cut off the excess paper. The easiest way to do this is with a craft knife.

Now we age the corners and the outer sides of the frame. For this, Distress Tim Holtz one-step craquelure paint in white or transparent is suitable.

Cut out a rectangle the size of the cardboard backing. In my case, this is the size of 14.9 x 9.9 cm.

Glue the paper onto the cardboard backing. Cut off any excess paper from the sides.

If you wish, varnish the outer part of the frame.

Now it's time to decorate our frame

First we try everything on and only then we glue everything.

For my frame, I chose the second option

DIY photo frame is ready. Now you can insert a photo and hang it on the wall, or pack it beautifully and give as a gift 🙂
