Content

Scrapbooking is the art of making and designing photo albums, photo and picture frames, booklets, postcards, and gift wrapping. Scrapbooking for beginners will give everyone a chance to learn how to create original things with their own hands. The art of scrapbooking has several different directions and techniques - distressing (aging album pages), stamping (creating original effects using ink, stamps and applicators), embossing (creating raised paintings) and other styles used to design albums and paintings.

Scrapbooking – what is it and where to start

Scrapbooking for beginners is a type of manual creativity, which is based on the design and production of photo albums, the original storage of family photographs, personal stories in the form of photographs, drawings, newspaper clippings, and notes. An original wedding and New Year's album, personal diary, invitation card, gift box, picture, book, binding, envelope for money will be very beautiful. Scrapbooking is also suitable for beginners; it is worth choosing simple options, after mastering which it will be possible to move on to complex patterns.

At its core, scrapbooking acts as a unique way of storing stories, using tactile and visual techniques that replace the story. The photo album must be decorated in a special way and consist of separate leaves, each of which will express a complete thought (collage). Such original albums should cover one topic - the birth of a child, a wedding. For beginning craftsmen, there are ready-made diagrams (sketches).

In Russia, demobilization albums are widely popular, containing not only photographs, but also drawings, collages, interesting caricatures, wishes, and addresses of colleagues. The production of such original albums is carried out by soldiers who are novice craftsmen, and everything necessary can be collected during the service.

It simply doesn’t make sense to arrange all the photographs in the house in scrapbooking style, so a specific theme must be chosen, after which photos will be selected to match it. Beginning scrapbookers may find it tiring to spend a long time creating a masterpiece, but after completing a few elements, they will have a desire to continue practicing this art.

What you need for scrapbooking

Scrapbooking for beginners requires patience and preparation of materials. You will immediately want to buy a lot of things for work, but you should not buy too expensive tools. For beginning scrapbooking masters, you need to select a starter set of tools that are not very expensive, and any beginner can purchase them. It is not necessary to buy professional tools that experienced scrapbookers use.

Materials

If you have decided to engage in this type of art, beginning scrapbooking craftsmen will need the following materials:

  • scissors (several types);
  • Double-sided tape;
  • glue;
  • paper and pencil;
  • sewing machine;
  • figured hole punch;
  • buttons, ribbons, rhinestones;
  • cardboard or cutting mat;
  • rubber stamps;
  • ruler and scissors.

Tools

Beginner scrapbookers should have the following tools:

  • You need to take several types of scissors (small and large).
  • Double-sided bulk tape, special adhesive tape for photos.
  • Simple PVA is ideal for gluing paper.
  • You will need special shaped hole punches, but there is no need for beginner scrapbookers to buy more than 2 pieces.

  • For a beautiful and original decoration of a notebook or photo frame, ribbons of various thicknesses, rhinestones, buttons or other decorative materials that are at hand can be used.
  • For cutting parts, simple cardboard or thick old magazines are suitable.
  • Scrapbooking for beginners does not require too many tools, so it is not necessary to purchase a sewing machine; it is not always needed. Instead, take a simple thick needle or thin awl.
  • You will only need a few rubber stamps, which come with stamp pads. Wet wipes can be used to clean dies, but only those that do not contain alcohol; beginner scrapbookers can wash them with warm water and soap.
  • Experienced scrapbookers use eyelet installers, and beginners can buy kits for their installation in specialized sewing stores.
  • The ruler with scissors will be replaced by a special cutter (a simple metal ruler, a stationery knife).

Sketches

Scrapbooking sketches for beginners will help make cards, postcards, and notebooks much easier. For beginning craftsmen, sketches will be a real lifesaver, because they can give new ideas and inspiration when creating an original photo album, frame, or notepad. If you can’t make a scrapbook page yourself, you should pay attention to ready-made templates (blanks) for scrapbooking.

Master class on scrapbooking a photo album for a child

A step-by-step scrapbooking master class for beginners will help you easily make a beautiful, original album for a child. Possessing creative and unconventional thinking, you can easily create a real work of art, but if you lack imagination, there is a way out - check out the master classes and choose a more suitable option for beginning craftsmen.

In this case, you will need the following materials:

  • 3-5 sheets of paper with any design;
  • 4 sheets of cardboard (white), size 12.5x12.5 cm;
  • 2 sheets of thick cardboard measuring 13x13 cm (special paper for scrapbooking).

Step-by-step instructions for scrapbooking a photo album for beginners.

  1. First, the original album cover is created. 2 squares are cut out of paper, the dimensions of which are 15x15 cm. 6 square sheets (12.5x12.5 cm) will be used as the inner sheets of the album.
  2. Paper is glued to the cardboard squares, all protruding corners are cut off. The left and right corners are cut straight, and the bottom and top at an angle.

  1. Carefully paste it over.
  2. Next, take a thin tape (about 50 cm long) and glue it to the inside of the square. The end of the tape “A” (as indicated in the photo) should be slightly longer.
  3. 2 pieces of tape are glued to the square (tape length 5 cm, in the lower and upper parts of the square).

  1. Following the example shown in the photo below, all parts of the future album are connected.
  2. White sheets of paper are glued on top, directly onto the tape, and for the cover you will need to take colored paper (various colors - black, red, blue, pink).

  1. All pages of the album are covered with squares of paper; any other decorations can be used according to your own taste.

How to make scrapbooking frames with your own hands

To make an original photo frame with your own hands, novice scrapbookers will need the following materials:

  • scrap paper (1 sheet);
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • scissors;
  • non-writing pen or stick;
  • photo;
  • stationery knife;
  • glue;
  • scotch.

A step-by-step plan will help you avoid mistakes and do all the work correctly, and a stencil will help you make a beautiful inscription, which will be simply irreplaceable in the initial stages. To create an original and unusual photo frame, you should use a variety of stencils that help you make various drawings, which will be important for people who do not know how to draw beautifully. Scrapbooking video tutorials for beginners will become an indispensable assistant in creating a real masterpiece.

  1. At the initial stage, the sheet of cardboard is divided according to the pattern shown in the photo.
  2. Using a stationery knife, carefully cut out the middle. A cardboard frame is glued to the back of the scrap paper.
  3. Inside the frame, carefully cut the paper crosswise and use a non-writing pen to make the sides of the bends.

  1. The corners are cut off, approximately 5 cm is removed from the edge of the cardboard. The upper and lower parts of the future frame are determined. Not very large cuts are made at the top, which should be slightly larger than the photograph. Scotch tape is glued around the perimeter of the frame, with the exception of the top part.
  2. A piece of cardboard is glued to the back to prevent the photo from falling out. The corners of the frame are bent on all sides; it is necessary to cut out all excess.
  3. A footrest is made from the remaining cardboard and attached to the frame.

  1. Almost any decoration can be used to decorate a photo frame - flowers, letters, beads, rhinestones, any available material. A digital camera will help you take beautiful photos for an entire showroom of original photo frames.

Notepad scrapbooking technique

To make a beautiful notebook with your own hands, a novice crafter will need the following materials:

  • Super glue;
  • thin felt;
  • scissors;
  • double-sided tape (sticky film);
  • notebook and paint;
  • decorative elements for decoration.

  1. Thin felt is laid out on the table, after which a notepad is laid out in the center, about 10 cm is left for hemming the material around the perimeter, all excess is cut off (it is necessary to cut out the shape of the notebook).
  2. Double-sided tape is glued to the inside of the cover, the notebook is folded together with the felt, and all the lines are carefully smoothed by hand (the binding should be evenly covered with the material). Corners need to be cut.
  3. All edges of the felt cover are glued, each bend is pressed well so that the glue has time to set. The notepad is closed and pressed down on top with any hard object.
  4. At the very end, the notebook cover is decorated - a pre-prepared blank or template and colored paint are used (colors can be very diverse - black, scarlet, gold, green, yellow, blue). The most important thing is that the paint is completely dry.

Video tutorials for scrapbooking postcards

Things that were made with your own hands, and this is scrapbooking for beginners, are in a real trend and are becoming more and more popular every day. It is possible to buy ready-made exclusive items or be patient to create a work of art. Having done just one

The scrapbooking technique allows you to make a beautiful postcard with your own hands, make a photo album and hang it on the wall like a panel. Thanks to the many step-by-step photographs presented in the master classes, even children can master this art.

How to decorate a photo frame with flowers

That's how beautiful it will turn out to be as a result.

As you can see, the photo frame is decorated with flowers. See how to make such a decoration element. To make it you will need the following items:

  • special paper for scrapbooking or other thick paper;
  • scissors;
  • template for flowers or figured hole punch;
  • glue;
  • distress ink.
Scrapbooking often requires a figured hole punch, which you can buy at a craft store.

If you don’t have a shaped hole punch, then cut out a flower template from cardboard or use special knives to cut out such elements.

The following photo shows what flowers need to be made with six petals. Here they are made using a figured hole punch.

For one such flower you will need to make 3 identical blanks, but then they need to be decorated differently. Make a cut between the petals on the first piece. Cut off 2 petals from the second piece, and one petal from the third. Don't throw away these small elements, we will need them later.

Cover the edges of the petals with distress ink. To ensure that the finished flower has the correct shape and is not too bulky, fold it as shown in the photo and trim the tip.

Now apply a little glue to the petal to the left of the cut, and place the right one on it. Decorate all three flowers in this way.

This is what you should get.

Now we need to give the flowers a more realistic look. To do this, you need to twist the edges of the petals using a wooden stick or, for example, a pencil.

This is what the postcard elements should look like, made using the scrapbooking technique.

Now place the middle element on the large flower blank, and the smaller one on top of it. We fasten all layers with glue.

It's time to make the core of the flower. To do this, take the two petals that you cut at the beginning of the work. Unscrew their ends back using a wooden stick, and then shape them into a ball, the corner of which is cut off.

Do not tighten this figure too much, since a single-petal element designed in the same way will need to be glued to its center.

As a result, you will get this lovely flower, which scrapbooking helped to create. With your own hands or with the help of junior assistants, you will need to make several more flowers of various sizes. Like the first one, you will also glue them to a photo frame, and you will get a beautiful, touching design item.

How to make a photo album with your own hands

The scrapbooking technique will also help you make it.

This folding photo album takes up little space. It can be thematic, dedicated to an interesting trip. If you wish, paste photographs of dear people and friends here.

When you need to look at the photos, you simply open the folded album and plunge into pleasant memories.

To indulge in them, start making your own photo album right now. This craft will require the following materials:
  • scrap paper;
  • glue;
  • scissors;
  • blue ink;
  • Teflon sheet.
Cut 2 strips of scrap paper measuring 10 x 30.5 cm. Fold each one in four like an accordion. Glue these two strips together to create a longer photo album.

Now we need to work with the background. To do this, spray ink onto a Teflon sheet. For those who do not know what this is, an explanation is given.

Teflon sheet is glass fiber coated with Teflon. This layer prevents sticking, so after finishing the needlework it is simply wiped off and the sheet becomes clean again.

Sprinkle the ink with a small amount of water. To create a background, move the photo album over the Teflon sheet to create streaks. After they have dried, you can paste photographs into the album and decorate it with various tags, letters, and labels.

Making a design notebook - master class

You can turn a notebook or a thick notebook on a spring into a designer item, which can also be created using the scrapbooking technique.

First you need to carefully remove the thick bottom and top cover. There is no need to unbend the spring; just twist it and remove these parts.

Cut 2 rectangles from thick paper to the size of the cover. Label which one belongs to which cover.

Apply glue to the old covers and spread it evenly over the surface using a hard brush.

Place the cut sheet on the table, and place the workpiece coated with glue on it. Press down and trim the edges at a 45 degree angle, 1.5 mm apart.

Apply glue to the margins of the paper, fold them onto the cardboard cover, and iron them with your finger to achieve the tightest fit.

Using a sharp knife, cut holes for the spring, glue this part of the paper, and insert new covers into the notebook.

Glue patterned paper onto the back of the covers. You can decorate the initial page of the album with thread, letters, and ribbons.

DIY scrapbooking paper

As mentioned above, you can buy it at a craft store or use thick paper. You can also make your own for decorating sheets.

For this interesting craft you will need:

  • table napkins of various colors;
  • decorative paper;
  • 2 rectangles of mosquito net;
  • PVA glue;
  • blender;
  • deep tray;
  • towels;
  • sponge;
  • large board;
  • pot.
Finely tear the paper and napkins, pour in water, mix with a blender until smooth. Add PVA glue and mix again.

Place a mosquito net on the tray and pour the mixture on top.

To make it easier to remove excess water later, use a slotted spoon for laying out. But, in addition to the paper pulp, there should also be water on the tray.

Place pieces of paper, flowers, dry leaves, and finely chopped threads on this mass. Cover the top with a second mosquito net.

Now, using a sponge, move from the center to the edges to collect excess water from the surface of the mesh. Try to drain the mixture as best as possible.

After this, place a towel and a large board on the mosquito net. Carefully turn the tray over so that the still wet paper is on the towel. Remove the first mosquito net, cover the mass with the second half of terry cloth.

Iron it to dry the paper, turn the workpiece over, placing it on this half of the towel, carefully remove the mosquito net. Iron scrapbooking paper through this fabric to dry.

Finally, you must put a press on the paper and let it dry for 1-4 days. During this process, check your creation occasionally to make sure it doesn't dry out or become brittle.

Now you can use this paper to decorate albums.

Panel for photo

It is also quite easy to make using the scrapbooking technique. There is room here for several photographs and decorative elements. Here's what you'll need for this scrapbooking:
  • shoe box;
  • colored paper;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • double sided tape;
  • braid and other elements for decorating a photo frame.
Take the lid of the box, glue colored paper or a sheet with prints inside. Cover the sides with brown paper and decorate the partitions in the same way. Using PVA, attach them in place.

Cut out the petals from colored paper, twist them, and fix this flower with glue. Decorate the panels with decorative butterflies, lace and other elements.

Use the ribbon to make a loop to hang the photo frame on the wall.

DIY postcards

The scrapbooking technique will help you make them too. The birthday person will definitely like this birthday card. If you want to give it during another joyful event, then you just need to make a different inscription.

Here's what you'll need to make it happen:

  • a sheet of white cardboard intended for watercolors;
  • on a sheet of colored and black cardboard used for pastels;
  • white ribbon 30 cm long;
  • lace braid 12-15 cm;
  • glue;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • 3 buttons;
  • 3 flowers;
  • capillary or black gel pen.
To make the base of the card, cut out a 16 x 20 cm rectangle from white cardboard and fold it in half.

Now cut out two large and two small rectangles from black and colored cardboard, the dimensions of which are indicated in the photo.

Glue the inscription and the small rectangle onto the large one.

Let's start decorating the card. Glue the lace, and on top of it - a ribbon, tie it in a bow. Attach three flowers to a small rectangle and buttons in their center.

You can continue to make a postcard with your own hands by applying a design and a border of dots to it. All that remains is to write warm wishes and present a card to the birthday person.

If you liked this type of needlework, you can improve your acquired skills by studying the following videos:

This is how do-it-yourself scrapbooking is done, resulting in the creation of charming postcards, touching photo albums, and beautiful wall panels.

This original handmade soft photo frame can be a great gift for friends and colleagues!

We will need:

  • cardboard (beer cardboard is better, but we can make do with plain cardboard),
  • PVA glue "Stolyar",
  • glue "Moment Crystal",
  • ruler,
  • scissors,
  • textile,
  • padding polyester,
  • decor.

We will make a frame with a heart.

I took cardboard for children's creativity, because... I just didn’t have any beer, and the bookbinding would be hard to cut. To make the frame tight, we will glue the sheets together. Those. We take 6 sheets of 15*15 (the actual frame and backdrop) and three - 5*12 (leg). You can have your own sizes.

We are trying to draw a heart. The main thing here is that everything is extremely symmetrical. I'm drawing on one side for now.

Now I take a sheet of plain office paper, fold it in half and place it against the middle line of our workpiece. I put dots, as if defining the line of the heart.

Something like that.

Now I just cut it out with scissors.

I attach the template to our future frame and trace it.

Everything seems to be pretty even and symmetrical. Symmetry in this work is very important, because everything will be visible on the fabric frame. I cut it out. I have a knife like this (it’s called a finger knife), but you can easily do it with a simple stationery knife.

It all worked out.

I take a moment of PVA carpentry (you can also take a crystal). And I glue the second blank.

We spread it and then spread the glue with a brush. There is no need to pour in slides, even cardboard will “lead”.

Glue it and cut it out again.

Here you can see that I didn’t cut the second layer slightly.

Using a nail file, sandpaper or file, we bring everything to mind. Then we will have fabric and all such little things will be noticeable. Glue the third layer and cut it out again, filing if necessary.

These are blanks for the legs. 5*12. Also 3 layers. It is quite possible to use binding cardboard for the backdrop and leg. But this one is cheaper.

We glue 3 layers and make roundings at the corners, marking a line with a coin.

We cut off the corners, file them carefully and mark a bevel, which we also cut off.

We also round the corners of the frame and backdrop.

Now let's make the leg. We cut off about 1.5 cm from our workpiece and glue both parts onto masking tape, leaving a gap of 2-3 mm for the bend.

Let's try to bend it. If everything worked out, move on.

Apply tape on the other side as well. We cut it flush with our leg.

Decorate with paper.

Take our frame and apply a little glue. I have PVA, but the glue stick is just great for these purposes, but it’s also super priced, so I gave up pencils.

And apply glue to the padding polyester. We don’t really need to glue it tightly, just to keep it in place. You can attach it to double-sided tape, but if you don’t peel it off later. We cut off everything that sticks out and cut out a heart too. No padding polyester allowances, otherwise there will be unsightly rolls.

We take the fabric with allowances of 2 cm on each side. We iron the fabric, apply padding polyester to the wrong side, coat the side with PVA as I did.

We fold the fabric onto the frame, glue one side and, slightly stretching, the opposite side, exactly the opposite! Don't overtighten! We cut the corners.

Here are two opposite sides glued and that’s it for now. We glue the third side and the opposite side. Leave the corners just notched for now.

Now we coat the corners with glue.

And we fold it like this, watching the tension of the fabric. It is impossible not to over-tighten, not to under-tighten! It won't be neat!

This is how everything turns out from the front side. The corners are straight. Keep an eye on this at every stage.

Now cut out the heart. The allowance is about 1-1.5 cm. I cut on the left, there was a smaller allowance left, but it’s better to keep an eye on this matter.

The most important thing is to carefully make this little toe. To do this, we cut a strip like this.

Glue it onto cardboard and apply glue to the end of our blank. You can see it in the photo.

We cut further along the contour without reaching the cardboard 2 mm (cardboard thickness). And we press this strip to the end on both sides. Next we start gluing the notches... For some reason there is no photo. I definitely filmed the process of gluing the notches, but it didn’t. Okay, in words. We glue the fabric to the cardboard one after another, going clockwise or counterclockwise, as is convenient for you. In the corner of the heart we make a notch directly opposite the corner and move on.

We constantly check the tension of the fabric. You can leave it like this, but I like it better with a line.

I set the upper thread tension to “2”, some even set it to “0”. So how will your machine be located? We do not touch the bottom thread.

I put the needle in the left position, because... We don't need a wide line here.

Here I stitched it off.

It's such a mess at the back.

Now we try on the leg to the backdrop, which we also covered with paper. Align the bottom of the leg with the bottom of the backdrop and place the leg in the middle of the backdrop.

You can simply glue it, you can attach it to brads, and I stitched it for reliability.

The seams are visible on the inside of the backdrop, and they will be visible in the frame.

We cover them with a nameplate. You can glue paper over the entire backdrop. But we have savings.

That's how decent it is.

Now we spread it quite widely with glue in order to glue the backdrop to the frame. Leave the top clean. We will insert photos there. Here, perhaps, it is better to use a crystal.

I first decorated the frame and then glued it on. We press with clamps, there is no need to put anything under the fabric, the clamps do not leave any marks.

This is what the backdrop looks like. The angle of the photo is kind of strange, it seems that the frame is bent, but everything is fine.

Decor. The threads, I pulled from two threads. They're so cool. They give a pleasant volume, they are light and somehow springy.

Scrapbooking decor is an interesting and very useful hobby, since the result of your labors cannot but please the eye. Especially if the end result is such a lovely and delicate photo frame with roses. This frame looks very attractive and is not cheap, but the costs of its production are minimal - both in terms of the cost of materials and in terms of time and effort spent.

The most “difficult” and time-consuming part of the work in this master class from the Scrapbooking Decor section is making flowers. What we need for this:

Scrapbooking decor - materials

- scrapbooking paper (any other thick textured paper will do)
- hole punch (flower templates)
- distress ink
- scissors
- glue

Where to begin
We used a 6 petal flower punch. If you don't have a hole punch, you can make a flower template and cut it out with scissors. We need 3 of these flowers for one rose.

Scrapbooking decor - making a rosette

We cut one of the flowers between the petals. the cut goes from the edge to the center. The second flower will undergo a greater transformation - we cut off two petals in it, and in the third we “remove” one petal. We do not throw away the cut petals, but fold them, since we will then form the core of the flower from them. Paint the edges of the petals with distress ink.

We fold the flowers into a cone shape and cut off the corners.

Apply a little glue to the petal bordering the cut - see photo.

Scrapbooking decor - how to glue petals is shown in the photo.

The petals definitely need to be curled. To do this, use a small stick or round pencil.

As a result of your work, you should end up with similar flower blanks:

We put the parts of the flower together without gluing them together.

Scrapbooking decor - how to make a flower core

It's time to take hold of the cut petals. We twist two petals with a stick and fold them into a bag. Cut off the tip. It is worth mentioning that the bag does not need to be made too tight - since we will also be inserting an additional petal into it.

From a single previously cut petal (twisted onto a stick) we make a tight bag, cutting off the tip. We insert the petal into a bag of two petals. We insert the finished core into the flower and “sit” it on the glue.

A beautiful rose made of thick paper is ready! Now all that remains is to make a sufficient number of these orzos of different diameters and you can decorate scrapbooking photo frames.

You have been invited to a birthday party and you are wondering what to give, or you have favorite photos, but don’t have a beautiful frame. Of course, you can buy a frame, but it’s much more pleasant to make one with your own hands in your favorite style. Today I will try to tell you in detail how to make a photo frame using scrapbooking materials, in my favorite “Shabby Chic” style.

So let's get started :)

For this we need:

  • 1 sheet of double-sided paper. I used Tilda paper from Panduro hobby
  • wooden Photo frame. In my version - a frame from Ikea.
  • tassel
  • white acrylic paint
  • decorations (paper flowers and leaves, brads, pendants, pearls, etc.)
  • sandpaper
  • scissors
  • breadboard knife
  • pencil

First you need to sand the entire wooden surface of the frame from the outside and inside. To do this, I will use zero sandpaper on a paper base.

Now the inside of the frame and all the outer sides need to be coated 2 times with white acrylic paint. In order not to stain the table, it is better to paint on a special self-healing mat or on white paper.

Cut out a rectangle for the outer part of the frame. I got it measuring 18.5 x 13.5 cm.

Glue the paper to the frame

Carefully trim off the excess paper from the inside. The most convenient way to do this is with a breadboard knife.

Now we age the corners and outer sides of the frame. Distress Tim Holtz one-step craquelure paint in white or transparent is suitable for this.

Cut out a rectangle the size of the cardboard backing. In my case it is 14.9 x 9.9 cm.

Glue the paper onto a cardboard backing. We cut off all excess paper from the sides.

If desired, varnish the outer part of the frame.

Now it's time to decorate our frame

First we try everything on and only then glue everything on.

For my frame I chose the second option.

DIY photo frame ready. Now you can insert a photo and hang it on the wall, or package it beautifully and give it as a gift :)

Thank you for stopping by. I wish you all inspiration and pleasant creativity!
