What elastic band should I use to tie a scarf? English rib knitting pattern

And women's. Among all the DIY knitting projects, you can find many different types of ribbed pattern in the collection.

Self-knitted elastic bands can differ not only in appearance, but also in the way they are knitted. If you want the product to have a neat appearance, then you should use knitting needles that are either 1.5 larger in diameter than the thread, or have exactly the same diameter. Among the most popular, we can list the following:

  1. simple 1x1, 2x2 and so on elastic band;
  2. double;
  3. English;
  4. French;
  5. Polish.

How to knit a simple elastic band

How to knit a simple elastic band with knitting needles

A simple elastic band includes different combinations of basic ones - front and back. The fabric stretches well and is elastic, thanks to this elastic band, knitted by hand. This type of elastic is usually used when you want the fabric to fit tightly. For example, a turtleneck, or its individual parts: collar, hem, cuff or neckline.

Simple elastic bands are usually designated as 1x2 or 2x2, here the first number means the number of knit stitches, and the second number means purl stitches in the report. Therefore, you can make an elastic band with knitting needles from any combination of cast-on stitches. But do not forget to maintain the proportions, thanks to which the canvas remains elastic. Here are several options for this pattern:

  1. elastic band 1x1. In the front rows there is the following sequence of stitches: front and back. All knit stitches must be knitted over the purl stitches, and the purl stitches over the knit stitches.
  2. elastic band 2x2. The loops and their number should be a multiple of two and plus 2 edge loops. Two knits and two purls are knitted in all odd rows, but in even rows, in order to follow the pattern, you need to purl over the knit ones, as with a 1x1 rib.
  3. elastic band 2x1. Divide the number of this elastic band by three and add 2 loops to the edge loops:
  • 1r. Knit two knit stitches to the end of the row, then purl one.
  • 2p is knitted throughout the entire row: purl 1, knit two.
  • 3 rub. here the knitting is repeated from the first row.

Before you start knitting a fabric with a simple elastic band yourself according to the pattern, you need to pay attention to the size of the fabric itself. For example, if the product is large, then a 4x4 elastic band is suitable for it. also pay attention to the diagram of the main drawing, because there must be harmony in the canvas and everything must be combined.

How to knit an English rib

How to knit an elastic band with knitting needles

Representatives of the English pattern consider it the most popular. In another way, this pattern is also called pearl. This DIY English elastic band, thanks to its soft texture and embossed appearance, can be used in hats, jumpers, scarves and other voluminous items. It is not recommended to use English elastic to knit cuffs and edges of the product. Because this pattern makes the fabric soft and elastic. Using yarn over loops and main loops you can make an English elastic band. English elastic band 1x1 is made in this way:

  • cast on an odd number of stitches and knit the first row according to the report like this: one yarn over, one loop that was removed unknitted, then throw the working thread behind the fabric and knit one knit stitch
  • 2 rub. Yarn over, remove one loop unknitted, knit 2 loops with one knit stitch.
  • 3 rub. Knit 2 loops with one knit stitch, yarn over, throw over one loop without knitting.

Unlike a simple fabric, you need to close the loops of an English elastic band differently. If you want to see a smooth and beautiful edge, you must first make a preparatory row. To do this you need to do:

  • knit the product according to the same pattern, where a loop unknitted is thrown onto the right knitting needle. The double crochet stitch from the previous row must be knitted with one knit stitch. All this must be done until the end of the row.
  • then close the loops on the product as you usually do.

The sequence of stitches in a 1x1 English rib, which will be knitted in the round:

  • 1r. knit, yarn over, loop not knitted
  • 2p. Yarn over, loop not knitted, purl
  • 3 rub. 2 loops together, not knitted loop

English 2x2 elastic will also look great. Only for this elastic band you need to knit a number of loops that are divisible by 4, and add 2 edge loops to them:

How to knit an elastic band with knitting needles diagram

  • 1r. goes as for a regular elastic band with the sequence - 2 knits and 2 purls. The last 2 stitches in the row must be knitted.
  • 2 rub. repeat: yarn over, slip the next two stitches onto the right needle without knitting, knit 2. Yarn over at the end of the row and slip the last 2 stitches unknitted.
  • 3 rub. From the previous row, knit a yarn over and a loop together, then one knit yarn over and leave 2 loops unknitted. Knit the penultimate stitch at the end of the row with a knit yarn over, and the last stitch goes with a knit yarn over.
  • 4r. here everything goes according to the report: yarn over, two untied loops, the next one is knitted with a knit stitch, then a knit stitch. Finish the row with one yarn over and two undone yarn overs.
  • then the principle is repeated from the third row, and the knitting goes to the desired size.

How to knit double rib with knitting needles

Double elastic is usually used to make the fabric more dense. For example, for (tops), cuffs, scarves, etc., thanks to this elastic band, the product keeps its shape longer. Beginners in this business can cope just as well with this knitting on their own as experienced knitters.

  • The stitches you cast on for the rib should be even and divisible by 4, plus 2 more edge stitches.
  • The first row is made according to the following pattern: the front one, knitted behind the front wall, re-slip one loop without knitting, move the working thread in front of the fabric and knit until the end of the row.
  • 2 rub. purl one, remove one loop without knitting, throw the working thread over the product.
  • in the third and remaining rows you need to repeat knitting from the first row.

Using the video below, you can see a more clear example and see the diagrams:

Hollow or double elastic for scarves or belts is best done in circular knitting, using special knitting needles. But then all the rows must be done according to the same pattern: knit stitch, one not knitted, retaken.

How to knit a Polish rib with knitting needles

Polish gum pattern

If you want to make a scarf-collar or snood, or children's things, then a Polish elastic band will come to your aid. It has a more airy and loose structure. There are two ways to knit a Polish rib:

  1. The number of loops you knit for the elastic should be divided by four and add two more edge stitches. Odd stitches should be knitted like this: two knit stitches, two purl stitches. In even rows you need to do: purl one and repeat: knit 2 and purl 2. The last stitch of the row is knitted.
  2. For the second knitting method, you also need to take loops, the number of which is divided by 4, and add two edge loops to them. The sequence for all knit rows is: one knit stitch, one purl stitch, 2 knit stitches. The purl rows are knitted: one purl loop and three knit stitches.

In the following video you can see how to knit a Polish elastic band:

How to knit French rib with knitting needles

For French Rib, the number of loops should be divisible by 4, then add 2 loops for the hem. The elastic band should be knitted in the following alternating stitches:

  • 1r. alternate two purls and two knits behind the back wall.
  • 2 rub. repeat the sequence: one purl, two facial behind the back wall and one purl.
  • subsequent rows must be knitted from the first.

French gum

There is another way you can create this elastic band:

  • the number of loops cast on should be divisible by 3 and add three more loops for symmetry and edge loops.
  • in all odd rows there is a sequence: one purl, then remove one loop without knitting, then knit the next loop behind the back wall, return the removed loop to the knitting needle and knit the front loop behind the back wall. The last stitch of the row must be made purl.
  • even rows are done like this: there is sequence 1 of the front, reshoot the unknitted loop, then the wrong one, return the unknitted loop to the left knitting needle and make it wrong. Finish the front row.

Since there are a lot of models themselves, it is necessary to look at such nuances before choosing the right elastic band:

  • the main pattern of the canvas and its appearance must correspond to the density and pattern of the selected gum
  • Not all types of elastic bands are used in circular knitting. After all, some have a double-sided pattern. This includes English and French 2x2 elastic bands.

One reader was “motivated” to write this article, for which special thanks to her. She wrote that it doesn't work English gum. It was not clear to her how to knit it according to the description I gave. I answered in the comment, I hope everything worked out for her.

But I suddenly remembered that at the dawn of my passion for knitting needles, I had not knitted anything with English elastic for a very long time. All because my mother was going to knit a hat with this pattern, and she didn’t succeed the first time. I immediately concluded that knitting English rib is very difficult, because if my mother, who knits very well, couldn’t do it, I won’t even try. Then this story was forgotten, and at the knitting courses there were no problems with knitting English elastic.

Why am I doing all this? It's just that when we acquire certain skills in something, many things seem obvious, and we miss that people who are just starting to learn this may experience serious difficulties.

It seemed that it couldn’t be simpler, in English rib, all rows, provided there is an even set of stitches, are knitted the same way: 1 knit, yarn over, remove the loop without knitting. But not everyone succeeds the first time.

In general, we continue knitting lessons for beginners. I quickly cast on 20 stitches and will try to describe in detail the process of knitting an English rib.

1st row.
  1. Removing the edge
  2. We knit the first knit stitch behind the front wall (or top section) - this is important, otherwise the pattern will not work.
  3. Next we make a yarn over
  4. remove the second loop without knitting
  5. As a result, we have a knit stitch, yarn over and a loop removed without knitting.

We knit like this until the end of the row. At the end, the row ends with a double crochet loop and an edge stitch.

Turn the knitting.

2nd row.
  • We remove the edge, then we have a double crochet loop; here it is, Together with this same yarn over, we knit the knit one.
  • In the description of knitting English rib, this is called: “we knit a double crochet loop from the previous row.”
  • Next, yarn over again and slip off the next loop without knitting. For convenience, after knitting the knitting stitch, I throw the working thread onto the left knitting needle, bring the right knitting needle under the working thread and remove the loop, which we have without knitting, so in one motion I yarn over and remove the loop.

That's all.

Another small nuance - when you knit two or three rows, your knitting will bear little resemblance to an English rib. Here in my photo you can see that after knitting two rows on the knitting needles, it turned out to be some kind of tangle.

Beginner knitters often feel that the pattern is not working out, they are knitting incorrectly, etc. In fact, you just need to knit a few more rows and everything will fall into place.

This is what four rows of English rib knitting look like. It doesn't look very similar either...

But here the pattern has already “appeared”. This is despite the fact that I knitted with fairly thin threads.

Our unexpected lesson is over. You are no longer afraid of English gum. I think it’s clear how to knit. If you have questions, ask in the comments. I wish that all patterns always turn out right the first time.

    Thanks for the master class. I really couldn’t do the English elastic, but thanks to you I’m knitting a scarf and everything works out.

Many who have been knitting for many years have heard the concept of an English elastic band. What is its feature and how does it differ from a simple single elastic band?

A simple rib pattern, consisting of alternating purl and knit stitches, is most often used to create an elastic edge on a garment. It can be used on the neck, cuffs or bottom. This pattern does not give much volume and stretches well. And here English elastic knitting- a knitting pattern that gives volume to the loops, special elasticity of the fabric, and a beautiful texture. It is great not only for finishing edges, but can also be used independently as the main pattern of the entire product. By English gum pattern They knit pullovers, cardigans, it is good for hats, snoods and scarves.

So, let's highlight the main properties of the knitting pattern English elastic knitted:

  • exquisite texture, creating a beautiful canvas even in large products;
  • excellent elasticity, making it well suited for decorating the edges of products;
  • the looseness and splendor of the pattern, formed due to the peculiarities of knitting, allows you to create a warmer fabric.

But this pattern also has its own small drawback. For example, it is recommended that before starting English rib knitting patterns, knit several rows with a simple elastic band. Otherwise, the edge of the fabric may stretch during wear.

It is also worth noting that English gum, unlike simple single, requires more yarn consumption. Yes, it is not entirely economical, but how impressive it looks in products.

Knitting technique and pattern of the English elastic pattern with knitting needles

Rotary knitting pattern "English rib" 1x1

We said earlier that a single simple elastic band consists of alternating a purl and a knit stitch. The English elastic band also consists of purl and knit stitches, but with the addition of a yarn over and throwing over the loops without knitting. Let's look at the diagram in more detail:

It is worth mentioning another important feature - the number of cast-on loops for knitting a pattern must be odd. This is done to create a neater edge of the canvas.

So, we cast on the required number of loops on the knitting needles. For example, 15 + 2 edge stitches = 17 loops.

1st row: Remove the first edge loop without knitting (). Next, knit alternately 1 purl and 1 knit stitch until the last stitch. Knit the outer loop.

2nd row. Remove the first loop as an edge loop. Then *1 knit stitch, yarn over, remove 1 purl loop without knitting*. Complete the row with an edge loop.

3rd row- yarn over, remove 1 loop without knitting (thread at the back of the work)*, knit the loop and yarn over of the previous row together, yarn over, remove 1 loop without knitting*.

4th row- *knit the loop and yarn over of the previous row together, yarn over, remove 1 loop*, knit the loop and yarn over of the previous row together. Next alternate rows 3 and 4.

If you are finishing the fabric with an English elastic band, then knit the 3rd row from the given description last, and then close the loops in a way convenient for you. Then your edge will be neat.

Circular knitting pattern "English rib" 1x1

At its core, circular knitting is practically no different from rotary knitting. The purl and front rows, for example in stockinette stitch or regular rib stitch, go one after another, without any changes in the technique of making the pattern.

But now you are planning to knit yourself a snood or sweater with raglan sleeves using an English elastic band. And here you may have difficulty tying yarn overs or loops together. But don’t panic, everything can be solved very simply, you just have to figure it out.

  1. In the first row we knit: Knit 1, yarn over, and remove the loop without knitting.
  2. In the second row: Yarn over, not knitted loop, knit a purl loop.
  3. Third row: we knit two loops together, followed by an unknitted loop.
  4. Important! When knitting in the round, do not forget to mark the beginning of the row with a marker. This way you won't get confused in alternating rows!

Types of English gum (step-by-step lessons for beginners):

Above we looked at a standard English rib knitting pattern. In fact, it is the only correct one. But since the pattern is quite popular, many simplified versions have appeared.

False English gum (fake or simplified)

One of the most famous imitations of the English rib knitting pattern is called false or fake. A purely visually connected canvas in this way is practically indistinguishable from the original. But working on it is many times easier.

To begin with, you should cast on loops; their number should be a multiple of 4 + 2 edge loops. The entire repeat of this pattern consists of two repeating rows:

Row 1: Edge loop, *knit 3, purl 1* - repeat until the end of the row, end the row with an edge loop.

Row 2: Edge loop, *2 knit stitches, 1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch* - repeat until the end of the row, end the row with an edge loop.

As you can see, in this version with a false English elastic band, there are no yarn overs at all.

Volumetric two-color English rib knitting

If you love experiments and simply adore color variety in clothes, then pay attention to the opportunity to knit an English elastic pattern from two colors. The technique may seem a little complicated, but the result is worth it. You will receive a voluminous and elastic fabric, which can be used as a pattern for knitting a hat or even a pullover.

The uniqueness of the two-color pattern lies in the fact that each row is knitted twice - 1 time with a thread of one color (color A), 2 times with a thread of a different color (color B).

Important! All purl loops of this pattern must be knitted in the classic way.

The principle of knitting with two-color English elastic with knitting needles:

Cast on an odd number of stitches on the knitting needles.

1st row: knit with thread A – * knit 1, yarn over 1, remove 1 loop without knitting *, knit 1

2nd row: knit with thread B - * 1 yarn over, slip 1 loop without knitting, knit 1 loop together with the yarn over with a knit loop *, 1 yarn over, slip 1 loop without knitting

3rd row: knit with thread A - Attention! We move the knitting to the opposite end of the knitting needle * 1 loop together with the yarn over is knitted with a purl loop, 1 yarn over, 1 loop is removed without knitting *, 1 loop together with the yarn over is knitted with a purl loop

4th row: knit with thread B - * 1 yarn over, slip 1 loop without knitting, knit 1 loop together with the yarn over with a purl loop *, 1 yarn over, slip 1 loop without knitting

5 row: knit with thread A - Attention! Move the knitting to the opposite end of the knitting needle * knit 1 loop together with the yarn over, 1 yarn over, remove 1 loop *, knit 1 loop together with the yarn over. Rows 2-5 are repeated.

Double English elastic band

It is logical that if there is a classic variation of the English elastic band 1x1, then there should be a 2x2. This method of knitting will definitely look good in pullovers, especially in oversized models. To perform it on knitting needles, you need to cast on a number of loops that is a multiple of 4 + 2 edge loops.

  • The first row is knitted with a standard rib, knit 2, purl 2. There is one caveat: the last two loops must be knit stitches.
  • We start the second row with a double yarn over, then slip two stitches onto the right needle without knitting, knit two. At the end of the row, yarn over and remove the last two loops unknitted.
  • Third row. We knit the yarn over and loop of the previous row together, knit 1, yarn over, and leave two loops unknitted. At the end of the row we knit the penultimate loop with a knit yarn over and the last one also with a knit yarn over.
  • Fourth row. We knit according to rapport: yarn over, two unknitted loops, the next loop is knitted together with the knit yarn over, then knit again. The row ends with one yarn over and two unknitted loops.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the fabric reaches the required size.

Methods for decreasing, adding and closing loops in English elastic bands

To preserve the beauty and integrity of the pattern in the canvas, the loops of the English elastic band should be decreased, added and closed in a special way. This is an important point especially when working on large items - cardigans or pullovers, where the evenness of the decreased stitches along the armhole or sleeves when knitting from top to bottom determines the beauty of the entire product.

How to decrease the loops of an English elastic band:

The decreases are made in 3 loops at a time, this allows you to maintain the sequence of the running loops of the pattern.

So, we knit an edge loop. Then the loops from the previous row (1 knit, 1 purl, 1 knit) are knitted together as follows (decrease on the right): Slip the first loop as a knit stitch, knit the next two loops together and pull the removed loop through the resulting loop. Then knit according to the pattern until there are 4 loops left on the knitting needles. Decrease on the left: Knit three stitches together. Edge loop.

How to add loops of English elastic.

To add loops in the English rib pattern, you need to first knit a sample. It is enough to knit 5-7 rows. In the next front row, in a convenient way for you, add 1 loop on each side. Then make even increments according to the pattern.

Closing the loops of the English elastic band

In order for the edge of a product knitted with English elastic to look neat, the loops should be closed correctly. To do this you should:

  1. Knit the product to the last row.
  2. Then knit a row with a simple 1x1 elastic band. This is done in order to remove the yarn over loops so that holes do not form on the edge.
  3. Since the density of a regular elastic band is less than that of an English rubber band, it is necessary to make the edge thicker. To do this, you can close the loops in the usual way, but with a double thread.

The video on how to decorate a raglan line with English elastic demonstrates ways to add loops in a pattern:

We knit a row of purl. with IS, then continue with an elastic band with LS: p. plates. viscous, elastic faces. /purl until the last 2 sts, knits, sts plats. viscous. Thus, we knit a 7 cm elastic band (we knit the last row with the IS). We switch to 15 mm knitting needles and continue knitting English. rubber band with LS. At a height of 26-28 cm we knit a row of faces. with LS, knitting 3 persons each. together along the row. We get 14-15 p.

In this way we knit up to 170 cm up (we lay the pattern completely vertically), then we knit the boards. viscous in all stitches up to 180 cm, while evenly decreasing in the 1st row. 4 sts. We get 23 sts. Close all sts. You will find all the necessary knitting patterns

Straight and reverse rows, while you need to dial an odd number of initial loops. The first and last thread arcs are edging, they form a neat edge of the product, but are not taken into account when describing the pattern!

A beginner will need to make several 10cm x 10cm elastic samples before starting to create the main fabric. It is important to make sure that the pattern is neat, without errors, the loops are even and identical. The sample will allow you to calculate the size of the future product.

The simplest English rib is done by alternating knit stitches and straight yarn overs. Knit the first row of the sample in the following sequence:

Knit stitch and yarn over;

Remove the next thread arch onto the right knitting needle, but do not knit;

Make sure the thread is behind the knitting;

Continue these alternations until the end of the row.

Start the next row of English elastic with a yarn over, remove the subsequent thread bow, leaving the thread behind the knitting. Now in front of you is the loop and yarn over of the row below. Grab them together with a working knitting needle and knit. Repeat these manipulations sequentially until you complete the second row.

Start the third row of the pattern by knitting a loop and a knit yarn over together, followed by a new yarn over and a slipped loop. Next, continue to knit English rib, alternating the patterns of the second and third rows according to the described pattern.

What is a fake English gum?

If the English gum is mastered, you can create an imitation of this spectacular pattern. The technique of knitted fabric will be even more simplified, while outwardly it will be impossible to distinguish a fake English gum from a regular one.

Type on straight knitting needles any number of loops that will be a multiple of four. Don't forget about the edges. In the first row of the pattern, alternate three knits with one purl. In the second row, repeat sequentially:

A couple of facial ones;

Purl;

Facial.

Work according to the pattern, repeating the first and second rows that make up the repeat of the fake English elastic.

How to knit a scarf with English rib

Knitted scarves made with a double-sided pattern are very convenient because they can be wrapped around the neck and created. The knitted fabric does not “expose” the unattractive underside, as is the case with one-sided reliefs. The product is elastic and at the same time quite loose.

That is why it is recommended to knit a scarf for beginners with an English elastic band, regular or fake. To begin, make several rows of the future product and decide on its width. It is better to choose long knitting needles; their thickness should correspond to the diameter of the working yarn.

Cast on the required number of loops and continue knitting a scarf of the required length with English elastic, for example, 1.5 m. Close the final row of the product very carefully, without tightening or deforming the edge. Cut the working thread so that a tail of approximately 7-10 cm remains. Carefully tuck it into the scarf fabric using a hook.

As you can see, knitting English rib with knitting needles for beginners is not such a difficult task. Now you can make a hat and a snood scarf in the same style and continue to improve your knitting.

Knitting is a human skill that dates back several thousand years, and it was only transferred into the hands of women by men in the 17th century. Since then, the keepers of the hearth have always knitted clothes for family and friends, fashion accessories, interior items, everything that can be described by one very important and significant word for any family: “comfort.”

Traditional knitting has changed along with the course of life, trends, images and fashion, gently adapting to modern realities, but without losing everything accumulated in its thousand-year history - technique, variety of styles, authenticity. Thus, the authentic English “Fisherman” pattern rightfully took an honorable place among various knitting techniques and is known in Russia as English rib.

English pattern

English gum is considered the most spectacular design in manufacturing - lush, voluminous and at the same time elementary. Used as the main pattern for knitting hats, scarves, any elastic bands on gloves or mittens, berets, pullovers and other sportswear. The use of the pattern is not limited to the above, but extends much further than clothing; English elastic on knitting needles is successfully used as an element of interior decor: spectacular knitted kitchen towels, covers for a teapot or sofa cushions, toys and much more.

English rib knitting technique and pattern

To knit an English rib pattern, you need to calculate and cast on an odd number of loops; the technique itself uses knit stitches, purl loops and a straight yarn over, which allows the pattern to become convex and embossed. The pattern for knitting English elastic is as follows:

  • in the second row, remove the first, edge loop, knit the knit stitch over the knit stitch, make a straight yarn over and knit the purl stitch;
  • all subsequent rows are the same: a straight yarn over goes in front of the front loop, the front loop is removed and not knitted (the thread is behind the fabric), the purl loop and yarn over are knitted with a purl loop.

Where:

The loops are knitted together with a knit stitch, picking up both loops with a knitting needle from the front.

Remove from the left knitting needle onto the right loop unknitted, the thread is located at the back, behind the knitting needle.

There is a second way to knit English elastic:

  • the first row is knitted using alternately 1 front and 1 purl (gum 1x1);
  • in the second row, the front loop is knitted from the loop of the underlying row, which gives a different option for the formation of a double loop, then the wrong one is knitted;
  • the next rows are knitted in accordance with the second row.

In addition to the above simple classic (single) English ribbing, there are also knitting options, such as double English ribbing and false English ribbing.

English rib faceted on knitting needles is most often used when knitting children's clothing and adult scarves, stoles and various hats.

  • in the first row, 2 knit and 2 purl loops are knitted;
  • in the second row, 2 facial loops are knitted, but from the bottom row to get a double loop, then 2 purl loops follow.

False or simplified English ribbing can be attractive due to significantly less yarn going into the product.

  • in the first row, all loops are knitted;
  • in the second row, after the edge yarn over, a reverse yarn over follows, then 1 loop is removed, without knitting, the thread being behind the fabric, then 2 knit stitches and an edge loop.

Uses and color patterns of English gum

The effectiveness of the English elastic band is also achieved due to the double-sidedness of the report; the design looks the same from the inside and from the outside. This advantage can be diversified by knitting the elastic with multi-colored yarn, the so-called two-color technique, creating creative knitted knee cuffs for winter boots, or a tube scarf, or a transformable hat.

In the knitting process, yarn of two colors is used, then each side of the fabric will have its own color. The only thing is to be careful not to confuse the colors, especially when knitting colored elastic horizontally with different colors, and not vertically. Replace the ball when turning the fabric and strictly monitor the color of the outer loop, it is this that indicates the color required in this row. As an option for help, use the algorithm that the front side is knitted with a light thread, and the backside is knitted with a dark-colored thread.

Tricks for handling English gum

There is a small peculiarity in products knitted with English elastic, the volume and relief of the edges that we like so much, over time they do not hold their shape at all, which, naturally, is quite a big minus. However, there are several tricks that can circumvent this drawback and increase service life.

You should know that it will take approximately twice as much yarn due to the volume and splendor of knitting, in comparison with simple patterns; therefore, immediately before starting knitting, carefully and carefully calculate the amount of yarn so as not to end up with a “broken trough” and an unfinished product.

In order not to lose volume, the English elastic should not be ironed, and it should also be dried flat, otherwise the knitting will stretch.

Let us dwell on one more subtlety: the scarf should be knitted shorter than in other techniques, since it will stretch out quite quickly, no matter how much you would like to avoid this. The same technique applies to hats with berets.

It is very important to know the technique of processing the edges of clothes knitted with English elastic, in particular the sleeves, necks and bottoms of products; they should not be decorated with English elastic under any circumstances in order to avoid further deformation.

Modern tendencies

English elastic is a pattern that is perfect for hats, berets, scarves, as well as elegant stripes for the head, gloves, mittens, socks; fashion trends have not bypassed English elastic. It began to be used not only for its practical purpose - to fix the edges of the product, be it sleeves or the bottom of a warm sweater, but its relief attracted attention when creating fashionable glove-fitting dresses. Along with high boots, cuffs for the arms and legs have become popular, knitted using English elastic with inexhaustible imagination in different lengths and colors. Designer scarves and shawls appear in every autumn-winter collection; snoods, circular scarves knitted using the English rib technique, are especially impressive and are not going to go out of fashion.
