Master class on scrapbooking: Practical bookmark. Paper bookmarks for books from scrapbooking Video: Album using scrapbooking technique

Scrapbooking appeared in the distant Middle Ages. Our great-great-grandmothers were not yet familiar with photography; portraits were rarely painted and took pride of place on the walls.

In those days, albums were compiled from favorite quotes, phrases, poems, and sometimes sketches. Note that at that time most decorations for scrapbooking were not purchased, but were obtained from the remnants of home handicrafts.

And if the fact is that most of the ladies knew how to weave, sew, embroider, knit ruffles and openwork on their own, you can understand that each album was unique and there was no way to create something similar.

A little later, traces of friends began to appear in scrapbooking albums: poems written by a friend, strands of hair decorated with ribbons, and even pieces of fabric from a lover’s clothes with passionate vows of love. It is believed that at this turning point from the decoration of the collection, scrapbooking took on the form that it has now - an individually decorated album dedicated to a specific event.

A century later, fans of scrapbooking saw new horizons for their creativity - photography. Since the photo was rare and expensive, a separate album was dedicated to one or two photographs.

Today, in the age of nanotechnology, we, like our distant ancestors, love and appreciate handmade work. Little girls look at their mother’s albums with great interest, and when they reach 8-10 years old, they themselves begin decorating cards, books, and albums. There are many attractive ribbons, fabrics and scrapbooking papers available in the store these days. But you can, like many years ago, try to knit ruffles, weave small pieces of fabric, weave your own lace and much more. There is no material that would not be used in this type of needlework.

How to make a book using scrapbooking technique?

To create a book, you can use special kits that contain blanks, and the master can do decoupage and decorate the pages and cover. Or you can create a book from scratch, but this will require more time and effort.

Below we provide a master class on creating a book. It examines the main nuances of manufacturing, variations of playing off a particular style. But these are just the basics; once you master them, you can experiment endlessly.

Fabric book cover using scrapbooking technique, master class

To create a fabric cover we don’t need much:

  • Glue, scissors
  • Regular cardboard and with millimeter markings (sold in specialized stores)
  • Canvas and padding polyester
  • Rings and eyelets

We have prepared a master class for an album measuring 30*30 cm, since this size is the most popular. You can create at your own discretion by substituting the required dimensions.

Cut out a 30*30 cm square from cardboard.

We apply it to the padding polyester and cut out the same square, gluing the parts together.

Now we cut out a square from the fabric, but here we add a gap of 1-1.5 cm on each side. Glue the fabric to the padding polyester, bend the corners and also glue it.

Glue on a cardboard endpaper. The back (the simpler part) is ready. Let's move on to the more difficult one.

Cut out a square of the same size from cardboard. We draw out the cardboard, finding the middle. We cut out a square for the photo or picture inside, for us it is 10*10 cm.

We trace along the padding polyester, cut out and glue.

Let's move on to the fabric. We cut it again with a gap of 1-1.5 cm. We attach a piece of cardboard with padding polyester, outline the inner hole, and draw another rectangle 1.5 cm smaller on each side. Cut it out as in the photo (Step 3 upper right corner).

Carefully glue the fabric to the padding polyester, first of all with glue near the window, then smooth it to the edges. The same 1.5 cm gaps should remain inside.

Turn the workpiece over, coat the edges of the fabric with glue and glue it on the back side as in the photo.

We glue a photo or picture on the back side, check that there are no gaps and that the picture is positioned evenly.

We seal the back side with cardboard endpaper.

Just a few strokes left. Make holes at a distance of 2 cm from the edge and insert eyelets. All you have to do is put the rings on them and the cover is ready. If desired, you can continue to decorate it, but for the first time the work is done.

How to design book pages using scrapbooking technique?

The cover is ready, but this is only part of the book. The main thing is the pages. They contain the soul and meaning of the album. So let's get started!

We will need blank sheets. For a book of ten sheets, we will need twenty sheets of cardboard 30*30 cm. We glue two sheets together with PVA glue. For uniform drying, place under a press.

Binding in scrapbooking style, master class

The book can be assembled either with rings or with a classic binding. In this chapter, in a master class, we will tell you how to assemble a bound book.

The cover and pages are ready. Let's start binding right away. We cut strips of 30*2.5 cm. They will be needed to glue the pages together. We cut the corners as in the photo.

We glue the pages and place them under a press until they dry completely. To ensure that there is a distance between the pages as in the photo, leave a uniform distance of 4 mm between the pages on the strips, and before placing them under the press, place 6-7 pieces of cardboard between the pages (to fix the position).

Along the edge as in the photo we lay gauze along the entire length and treat it with glue. You can lay ribbon, braid, or ruffles along the visible edges for aesthetics.

Cut out a spine from thick paper (not cardboard). It can either match the cover or be completely different. We glue it exclusively along the edges to the sheets, leaving a small gap at the end. Otherwise, the view will be sloppy, and the pages will only open halfway.

Glue the protruding layer of bandage to the cover (between the cover and the endpaper); if there was a braid, then tuck and glue it too. Dry thoroughly and only then refill.

How to make a bookmark for a scrapbooking book?

Depending on the style of the book, it may be possible to add a bookmark. Bookmarks are especially relevant in books made in retro style or in the style of national motifs. Below is a master class on an embroidered bookmark.

We embroider the front and back sides of the bookmark on the blanks and cut them out with a gap of 1 cm.

We bend and stitch, taking a stitch on each side as in the photo. The result is a durable and beautiful seam.

We steam it, sew on the tassel and put it in our book.

There are a lot of kits for scrapbooking, and note that they make the work very easy. After all, they have everything you need, and all that remains is to do beautiful decoupage. It seems too banal and such sets deprive of individuality? But no one forbids combining sets with each other, supplementing them with your own details. After all, you are a free artist, and kits are just additional raw materials.

Themes for scrapbooking

A small selection of books made in different styles. Perhaps something will inspire you to new creativity.

Any handicraft is a cost, and usually quite impressive, considering that handicraft businesses today are very profitable enterprises. But everything depends on you and me. We can go and buy a ready-made set, or we can prepare everything ourselves. For example, download templates and print them yourself.

Backgrounds for books using scrapbooking technique

Just like templates for books, there are many backgrounds for books using the scrapbooking technique on the Internet. We have collected only a small part of the possible collection of a scrapbooking master.

  • Lilia (has been doing scrapbooking for a year): I saw a handicraft miracle for the first time at an exhibition and was enraptured. I went to the store to buy a set, the prices were amazing, and I decided that I couldn’t do everything myself? I could not. But in moments of unsuccessful creation, my parents saw my desire and gave me a set. With him everything is different, it makes it much easier and gives you more time.
  • Anna (has been involved in scrapbooking most of her life): once in her student years she became interested in scrapbooking, for a long time she perceived it exclusively as an expensive hobby
  • Then the classic situation - maternity leave, the child is often sick, there is no talk of going to work, and as always there is not enough money at home. Kuma works in a wedding salon and offered the organizer invitations, albums and postcards. My husband and I just grinned at what could come of this
  • And believe it or not, within a month I was fully loaded with orders. When my husband had a day off, I worked 12-15 hours a day. Now scrapbooking is my life and my business. What I can recommend to beginners: start with kits, but don’t get carried away, gradually move on to making your own. It is less expensive for the family budget
  • If you want to save money: gather in groups and order in bulk, it’s not difficult to find like-minded people - exhibitions, forums, social networks

Video: Album using scrapbooking technique. Master class for beginners

Don’t stuff books with unnecessary pieces of paper, candy wrappers or calendars – make a beautiful bookmark with your own hands that will please the eye every time you see it. Moreover, it is very simple! We have prepared for you a selection of master classes on making a wide variety of bookmarks, most of which are done in less than 5-10 minutes, but the crafts look very presentable.

Satin bookmarks, bookmarks-clips, faces of different animals and much more - all this can easily be made with your own hands. You can also use most of the accessories to separate notes. If you are studying, be sure to take a closer look at these lessons and choose something that will be convenient for putting your notebooks in the right places. In addition, many homemade bookmarks fit perfectly into journals or scrapbooking albums. In a word, they are universal - choose what you like.

Satin

This is more of a female option, because such a bookmark should be made from some old pendant or earring that has lost its pair. Well, such an accessory looks very romantic - not masculine.

We will need:

  • satin ribbon (15-20 cm);
  • accessories for bracelets;
  • any pendant;
  • pliers and wire cutters.

It is better to lightly melt one end of the satin ribbon, which will be placed in the book, so that it does not fray (observe safety precautions!). We place the second end in the fittings and clamp it. We insert any decoration into the ring where the clasp is placed.

Take a look at the photo: these homemade bookmarks look like a stylish accessory, and not just a ribbon to secure a page.

There is no shame in giving such a bookmark as a gift to someone or using it in creating a notebook if you are involved in such creative work.

Felt

This bookmark will appeal to schoolchildren and simply lovers of cute little things. In this example we will talk about how to make a felt bookmark in the shape of a bear cub with your own hands, but you can choose any other template (you can look at our selection of stencils).

We will need:

  • felt of different colors;
  • foam paper;
  • Super glue.

Draw the image or trace it using a stencil. You can cut foam paper with a stationery knife or thin scissors, and you can sew large felt parts with contrasting threads, making large stitches. Small parts need to be glued with superglue (it is very convenient to use a glue gun).

The base of the bookmark is best made from foam paper, as it is soft and flexible: press the strip between two stenciled shapes and glue it together.

Try adding some interesting decor or embroidery to your homemade felt bookmarks to make them even more colorful and interesting.

From a postcard

Making a bookmark from a postcard is even easier, because it only takes a couple of minutes to create. If you are used to filling books with postcards or cardboard, take the time to make something more original and cute.

We will need:

  • any postcard or glossy cardboard;
  • colored paper;
  • markers.

We take any template of a triangular or rectangular shape.

We cut it out and make sure that our bookmark has “ears” cut out - this will make it more interesting. Next you need to make a fixing part. If the stencil allows, we cut out the edge along the contour to create the back and front parts. If this doesn’t work, you can glue on “legs” or “wings”.

To decorate the bookmark, use colored paper and draw faces with “hairstyles” with a felt-tip pen. By the way, such bookmarks can be made miniature and used instead of stickers or note dividers.

Magnetic

It is very convenient to use magnetic bookmarks. They do not fly out, but at the same time they fix the pages of books, which sometimes like to turn over on their own during the reading process if you do not hold them with your hand.

We will need:

  • magnetic tape;
  • any base;
  • Super glue.

As the main material, you can choose a postcard, colored cardboard with your applique, velvet cardboard and something else. You can make a magnetic bookmark with your own hands from almost any beautiful material that is most often used to create this accessory.

Cut two pieces of magnetic tape that will be slightly narrower than the workpiece. We attach the tape with superglue. We do not recommend taking magnets that are too long and wide, since this is still a bookmark - too tight a fixation is not needed.

Decorate your bookmark as desired, change its shape (you can make it openwork).

With button

Bookmarks made from paper clips are very convenient for securing the pages of small books and personal notebooks. They turn out to be very bright and original, and even a child can make them with their own hands.

We will need:

  • paperclip of any size;
  • button;
  • a piece of fabric;
  • Super glue.

It's best to use colored paper clips, as they will look more beautiful and won't crease the pages. You can use non-fabric buttons, but bookmarks with patterned fabric look much more interesting. Covering a button is simple: drop a little glue into the center and spread it well over the button so that there are no smudges, and tie it at the back with thread or glue it.

Glue the paperclip by pushing it slightly under the fabric. If you don’t want to use a button, you can glue a piece of cardboard covered with fabric – it will also work out great. Bookmarks with a pearl bead on top also look beautiful.

Children's bookmarks on sticks

If you want to make a bookmark for a child, you can choose almost any image to serve as its base. This is a very simple video master class that even your child can master.

Flip through coloring books, sort through postcards, or simply draw a fairy-tale character (or any other image) on cardboard. It is most convenient to use culinary skewers as a base, as they are very thin.

By the way, you can paint the skewers using acrylic paints. But don't do it with gouache or watercolor - the paint will imprint on the book.

As you can see, making a bookmark with your own hands is a simple task, but very useful. We hope you have found your own version or technique for making this accessory in this collection and are ready to complement it with your own ideas. Well, with colorful bookmarks, reading will become much more interesting, and taking notes will be much more pleasant.

The art of scrapbooking should be called quite interesting; bookmarks using it will truly become a real work of art. In our master class we will show how you can make a cute bookmark for a children's book, but the theme does not have to be exactly that: if you wish, you can make a similar bookmark for a friend, mother, etc.

To get started, you should prepare cardboard, scrapbooking paper, satin ribbon, cord, beads, glue, stamps and scissors.

In fact, making a bookmark is quite simple, so you can involve the child himself in the work. So, we cut out a blank measuring fifteen by five centimeters from cardboard and the same one should be cut out of paper for scrapbooking.

Then you will need a stamp pad, with which you need to tint the edges of the blanks.

You should insert a satin ribbon into the resulting hole and tie it with a bow. We also insert a small piece of waxed cord through the hole and tie it in one knot.

Then we string a bead onto the cord and connect the ends of the cord together. At this stage, the front side of the bookmark is ready.

Since we are making a children's bookmark, on the reverse side it will be decorated with stamps in the form of bears, and in the lower part you can sign the initials of the owner of the book or any wish.

That's all, a cute and simple bookmark for a children's book is ready.

Scrapbooking master class on making bookmarks

Using available materials, we will try to make a tag, which, as it turns out, is a very multifunctional product

For production we will need:

Materials:

  • - ready-made label (you can cut the desired configuration from thick cardboard),
  • - a piece of newspaper,
  • - napkin for decoupage,
  • - glue for decoupage,
  • - PVA glue,
  • - instant glue,
  • - acrylic paints,
  • - narrow braid or lace,
  • - button, small decorative elements,
  • - masking tape,
  • - eyelet,
  • - thin lace or any thick thread,
  • - black paint for stamps,
  • - everything else that your imagination suggests

Tools:

  • - scissors,
  • - glue brush,
  • - a piece of sponge for applying paint,
  • - old toothbrush,
  • - a stamp with a plant motif or, if you know how to draw, a pen,
  • - grommet installer.

So, let's get started

I have a ready-made label from IKEA: natural color on one side and black on the other. I will decorate the black side, and leave the back for the inscription.

Protect the reverse side of the label from paint and glue using masking tape.

From the newspaper (I have a newspaper in English - for greater importance) we will tear off a piece that will cover about 1/3 of our label. Glue a piece of newspaper to the bottom of the tag using PVA glue, after the glue dries, turn the label over and trim off the excess newspaper.

Let's take a little white paint on a sponge and “pick through” the remaining black background on our label, slightly grabbing the edge of the newspaper. Let's dry it.

Let's cut out a floral motif from the top - picturesque layer of the napkin, attach it in the best possible way to our label, and cover the top with decoupage glue using a fan brush. Let's wait until it dries.

Dilute a little ocher-colored acrylic paint with water (I have a vintage button of the same color), dip an old toothbrush in the paint and spray it on the label. At the same time, we hold the brush by the handle with our left hand, with the bristles down, and with the index finger of our right hand we move it along the bristles away from us to form small splashes of paint (I recommend trying it first on a piece of scrap paper). Let's dry it.
Glue the lace and braid in the lower half of the tag with instant glue. Decorate the label with a vintage button, first threading it with a lace or thick thread, which we will tie with a bow. Let's add a few small decorative elements.

Using black paint, we will make several faint stamp impressions with curlicues along the edges of the label. If there is no stamp, but you have the ability to draw, draw curls!

Remove the protective masking tape from the back of the label.
Using a sponge with brown acrylic paint (or umber), we tone the edge of the label, giving it a weather-worn look.
Place a grommet in the hole of the tag.

A short ribbon and apply a label to decorate the card:

Straighten the ribbon and tie the tag to the gift:

A long ribbon, the ends of which are tied in knots, will make a bookmark for a book:

And also - attach a tag to a piece of fabric, etc. - canvas, you will get a branded label for your products:
