Properly selected yarn is one of the conditions for the normal operation of a knitting machine. Preparing the yarn before knitting, winding it into skeins on a special device is the second condition for high-quality knitting of knitted fabric.
When purchasing a knitting machine, immediately buy a device for rewinding yarn (winder), since not all skeins of yarn purchased in a store can be used for machine knitting. Not only are most of them designed for hand knitting (the thread is too thick), but they are also wound so that when knitting on the machine, the tension of the yarn in the carriage will constantly “jump,” and so will the skein itself. This will lead to the appearance of various types of defects in the fabric, for example, the appearance of stripes, distortions, twisting, etc.
Skeins of yarn for machine knitting should be wound so that the thread easily comes off the sides of the skein, without creating additional tension in the carriage. That is why you need to start using a skein not from the outer end of the yarn, but from the inner one.
The device for rewinding yarn is structurally quite simple and there is no need to explain in detail how to use it. It is enough to fasten it to the table top, thread the thread (yarn) through the tensioner, twist a few turns by hand and then start rotating the winder handle.
Such a uniform and beautiful laying of turns of yarn in a skein will begin to occur.
To rewind yarn (one fold) intended only for machine knitting, an additional device that looks like a spinning wheel is required. A thin thread, wound in a ring, is placed on such a spinning wheel and first rewound into a skein. Then several skeins are simultaneously rewound into one, the yarn of which will already have 3-4 folds of thin threads.
To prevent the skeins from “jumping” on the table, place them in a glass jar. This advice especially applies to hand-wound balls. When rewinding, tangles can jump out even from such a high can and create a lot of inconvenience for you. And keep in mind that knitting with them on a machine is strictly not recommended.
