Since the process is quite long, you can tell the children along the way that this technique was used by the famous sculptor of Ancient Greece Phidias when creating the statue of Zeus. The upper part of the statue was made of wood and covered with thin plates of ivory and gold leaf. The final shape was given to it using a gypsum-anhydrite mixture, which adheres well to paint.
